SALTS-- Potassium Sulfate, Muriate of Potash, Calcium Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Sodium Molybdate, Magnesium Sulfate!!!

Beware!  When water is added to these components, they produce salts.  Soils can eventually reach levels so high in salinity that the very plants, trees and lawns you are trying to propagate may die of malnutrition!

NITROGEN

Many commercial fertilizers acquire their nitrogen ingredient from ammonium nitrogen and/or nitrates.  These nitrogen compounds are directly related to acid buildup in soils and to ground water contamination.  In addition excess use of ammonium nitrogen and nitrate can inhibit phosphorous, potassium, calcium and magnesium ion up-take and distort natural chemical feedback systems.  Fruit, plant and tree disorders with eventual decay of conductive tissue can materialize.

Direct introduction of nitrates can provide unfavorable bacterial growth in soil and in water supplies.  Leaching nitrates and other nitrogen compounds are directly related to contaminated dead zones in the Gulf of Mexico and in over fifty other gulf-type sites around the world.  These oxygen-starved ocean zones create dead aerobic biological grown zones further jeopardizing all oxygen dependent life.  Some of the ground water contamination areas already jeopardize human health as more plumes approach.  Ammonium nitrogen and nitrates have already substantially overwhelmed the natural and artificial balance of integrated and waste processes in many areas.

Many commonly used fertilizers use P2O5 and/or K2O molecules or their derivatives for their phosphorous and potassium sources.  The phosphorous component in these fertilizers is commonly in a truncated incomplete reaction mixture stage.  Upon the addition of water to this phosphorous mixture, the reaction continues, producing strong phosphoric acids.  Ortho phosphoric acid, with a pH of 2.1, and many of the various intermediate compounds and acids formed are aggressive at acquiring water, some can even break down plant molecules by fragmenting out the constituents for making water.  As we all know, water is a vital component in natural plant chemistry.

If this process begins early enough in its reaction sequence, it can take years to complete.  Meanwhile it is releasing heat, sequestering water and producing acids and salts.  In seriously acidic soils, mineral depletion leaching is accelerated.

Dr. Benson's Natural Mix contains NO sulfates, chlorides or nitrates.  When water is added to this formula, ingredients are available to plants, trees and lawns immediately.  Derived mainly from plant residue, Dr. Benson's produces neither salting effects nor harmful leaching effects.  Dr. Benson's is a holistic formula, friendly to our only environment!!
